New Worlds Theatre Project, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization founded in 2005 to bring dignity to the literary legacy of the Yiddish language by bringing artistic excellence to the creation and production of innovative English adaptations of classic Yiddish plays. We seek to educate artists and audiences about the rich literary heritage of the Yiddish language and position Yiddish dramatic literature on universally relevant themes within the world theatre community.

Yiddish dramatic literature emerged in the 19th century in response to the encounter between the Yiddish-speaking world and the world outside of it. Suddenly Yiddish-speaking intellectuals discovered their voices, which expressed varying and often self-contradictory reactions of traditional Jews to modernity: the voice that feared modernity, the voice that longed for it, and the voice that was torn by both emotions at the same time. Indeed, the Yiddish playwrights were writing about conflicts that are at the very heart of human struggles today.
